Why is everyone worrying about the cost of oil and gas going up? This has to be the best thing for the long term future of the planet and the next generation. It should be a cause for the green, progressive and environmentally minded to celebrate. It should be the clear sign to utility companies to produce our electricity in a green, environmentally sustainable fashion and not pay for overseas fossil fuels any more.
Reasons to celebrate, less fossil fuels used, less global warming, cleaner airs, cleaner water and better future for our children. What’s not to like?
Going green was never going to be a decision pushed on a population by a government, it was always going to be an individual, community process. Governments are entwined with big business that don’t really care about your children and grandchildren. Now for the first time, consumers can choose to go Green and not pay a premium. Its the better choice and the cheaper choice. There is no downside.
Now, going green makes economic sense for everyone. Fossil fuels are not only expensive they are politically repulsive. Russia holds Germany hostage with their gas pipeline. The Middle East holds the West to ransom with their OPEC pricing cartel. Kazakhstan, the world’s leading source of ‘yellow cake’ or uranium is currently in turmoil with Russian military based there on a shoot to kill policy. Is this something we want to be involved in when we can produce our own renewable and green electricity? Have fossil fuels been the reason behind some of the wars in the Middle East? Could the fossil fuels be a driver for the current political discord with Russia?
Solar and wind is the cheapest available energy for most places on earth, add storage and its still the cheapest energy system particularly when you factor in the cost of recycling back up fuels and generators and the decommissioning of nuclear plants.
The economics are really working for renewables now. Renewables are the cheapest long term source of power. Battery vehicles are the cheapest total cost of running a car. Recycling is the cheapest cost of production as less energy intensive than any mining or refining.
How do you feel about being Green? The answer is great. You are on the right path, you are working towards a brighter future, you feel hopeful and optimistic that others will follow you and that the polluters will be a distant memory. The choice is there on an individual level and its time for the consumer to vote with their feet.

What’s out of fashion: AGAs, Petrol and Diesel 4WD cars, Disposable Clothes, Disposable Culture, Fast Food, Food Waste, Plastic, Fly Tipping, Over Consumption.
Well if we are all financially and economically incentivised for the first time to make the better choice then rising fossil fuel prices are definitely a cause for celebration.
